MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

“My philosophy of education is that every individual, starting at a young age, can learn, retain what they learn, and be successful when it comes to learning. I believe a child can learn if he/she wants to, has committed and dedicated teachers, daily parent involvement, and a positive-loving learning environment. The role of the student, role of the teacher, role of the parents, and the learning environment are the key factors in a successful learning experience”

– Charles Eric Hopkins II

The Role of the Student

I believe it’s the role of the student to want to learn and come ready to learn. Students should work hard on their work and not be afraid to ask for help. When the teacher is giving instructions, the student should keep their eyes AND ears on the teacher to gain full understanding of what is being told. Students should be willing to reach out to resources available and to never give up on themselves. I believe children 5 years old and up can have a conversation with two adults at the same time; and communicate effectively on different topics. Children are sponges...I love to see how much knowledge they can hold!

The Role of the Tutor or “Educator”

I believe the educator’s role is to educate students and give them the components to succeed. As an educator, we have to be flexible and notice every child’s unique learning style. As an educator, we cannot expect every child to learn the way WE teach. We have to be an “open book” to learning new teaching styles that best fit each individual child we teach. It’s important for educators to not force a child to learn, but to guide them and encourage them to want to learn. It’s a educator’s job to create a positive learning environment for learning to take place. As an educator, you must find YOUR way to make learning FUN for YOUR unique-diverse group of students.

The Role of the Guardian or Parent

The role of the parent/guardian is to be involved in your child’s education. As a parent/guardian, I believe it’s important to find a time to talk to your children about their day. When your child’s school holds opportunities for feedback or parent involvement, I believe parents should take advantage of those moments as often as they can. Parents should attend Back to School nights (even virtually) to understand what their child will be learning about and to know who is giving information to their child. Parents should also communicate with their child’s educator on positive and areas of concerns. I also believe parents should be open minded with feedback from teachers.

Positive Learning Environment

The role of the environment is very important. Children can learn when they feel safe and welcomed in their environment. A classroom full of familiar objects, words, activities, pictures, will help children feel familiar with the environment. How objects are accessible to children will also help children learn boundaries and independence. Children will feel right at home while at school or with a tutor.....when the classroom environment meets their needs.

EDUCATORS SHOULD BE IN THIS FIELD BECAUSE THEY WANT TO BE. IT'S A TOUGH JOB, BUT IT'S ALSO THE MOST REWARDING! KIDS ARE THE FUTURE... LET'S BE THE STEPPING STONE TO HIGHER LEARNING!
